Being the customer storytellers that we are, we wanted to share a selection of our all time favourite stories with our blog readers. After asking around the office, we’ve compiled a list of our most-loved literary works that will hopefully help bookworms everywhere pick their next read. From The Twits to The Firm, we’re confident there’s a little something here for everyone. Enjoy!

Alex: The Beach, Alex Garland

What character would you be?
Got to be Richard, the main man of the story. Often uses travel to escape from reality.

Why?
I read it when I was about 18 and couldn’t put it down. Not many books have ever done that to me. It’s a pretty simple tale of a British backpacker, seduced by life in Thailand, who discovers a secret ‘beach’. It perfectly sets up this idyllic life which over time becomes a dark, disturbing read.

Alli: The Firm, John Grisham

What character would you be?
Mitch’s wife Abby

Why?
She’s not the key character but plays a strong role in helping her husband investigating the truth about the law firm Bendini, Lambert and Locke.

Elle: The Princess, Jean Sasson

What character would you be?
Jean Sasson herself

Why?
She is a biographer and has interviewed and written about some of the Middle Eastern royal women. Risky, controversial and possibly life threatening to get the real truth!  Would love to be her shadow writer and see what she saw!

Faye: This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor, Adam Kay

What character would you be?
None – I don’t think I’d be able to hack even one day as a junior doctor!

Why?
I read this book at Christmas and absolutely loved it. It’s a true story based on diary entries of when the author worked as a junior doctor. It’s easy to read and is equal parts funny and sad in good measure. I thoroughly recommend as it’s a real eye-opener about what it’s like working in the NHS!

Jo: The Dalai Lama’s Cat, David Michie

What character would you be?
The cat

Why?
Great insight into Buddhism through the eyes of a cat!

Kate & Verity: Anne of Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery

What character would you be?
Anne

Why?
Kate: She is such a positive character and sees the magic in everything around her.

Verity: She had balls, even back then!

Melissa: Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier

What character would you be?
The main female character, you never actually find out her name even though the book is told from her perspective

Why?
I’d want to be the unnamed female lead so I could finally find out what she was called!

Phil: Northern Lights, Philip Pullman

What character would you be?
Iorek Byrnison

Why?
Because he is an armoured bear!

Seona: Squash and a Squeeze, Julia Donaldson

What character would you be?
The old lady

Why?
She finds the value of having less stuff and that having a little home is big enough for her.

Terry: An Officer and a Spy, Robert Harris

What character would you be?
Georges Picquart

Why?
Great detective work to get to the truth of the story.

Tom: The Twits & The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, Roald Dahl

What character would you be?

Why?
Or pretty much any other Roald Dahl book, I just loved reading them. Or maybe I just liked the drawings…
